Abra targets MPBL crown, Quezon fights for survival
The Abra Solid North Weavers and the Quezon Huskers are set to play Game Three of the MPBL National Finals, with Abra leading the best-of-five series 2-0. A victory for Abra would secure the championship, while Quezon is fighting to avoid elimination.
Abra, the North Division champion, won the first two games at home by narrow margins (81-80 in overtime and 62-58). Quezon, the South Division champion, faces the threat of being swept in the National Finals for the second consecutive year.
Key players for Abra include MVP candidate Dave Ildefonso, point guard Jason Brickman, and a supporting cast of Encho Serrano, John Uduba, and others. Quezon is led by Ljay Gonzales, who has averaged team-highs in points and rebounds during the Finals, especially in the absence of the injured Judel Fuentes, who may return for this game.
Statistically, Quezon has been more effective from the three-point line, but Abra has dominated rebounding and free-throw shooting through the first two games.
Prior to the game, the league will hold an awards ceremony to honor the season's top performers, including the All-Star teams, MVP, and other individual awards.
